HTC Desire White

Woohoo! It's the HTC Desire White ..

The HTC Desire was the most popular mobile phone of 2010. It features the Android operating system, a great looking touch screen display, an optical trackpad as well as HTC's excellent Sense user interface. Ergonomically, the HTC Desire just slips naturally into the hand with its all–round soft curves.

The HTC Desire has a superb 3.7 inch widescreen, AMOLED display, delivering stunning resolution and clarity. Arguably crisper and clearer than any other display on the market, it delivers touchscreen responsiveness definitely in the ballpark of the iPhone and, moreover, it is fast.

The combination of Android 2.1 sitting above a Snapdragon CPU clocked at 1GHz with 512Mb of RAM and ROM really does enable you to zap through opening up applications and then moving between them.

It's multimedia credentials are quietly competent rather than superb – such as the 5 megapixel, autofocus camera with LED flash and its 32GB memory card capacity. Where the Desire really impresses, though, is in what could be called its charisma, if it could walk into a crowded room, heads would most definitely turn. Its Teflon–coated back and sides are simultaneously rubbery and tough yet soft and almost sensuous, a strangely compelling tactile experience.

HTC Desire White Review

The HTC Desire is powerful yet sleek smart phone manufactured by HTC Corporation. Read on for Easy Mobile’s lowdown on the HTC Desire.

What is so special about the HTC Desire?

The HTC Desire has the specifications that will blow you away. Let us see what the HTC Desire has to offer:

CPU, GPU and Memory:

The HTC Desire is powered by blazing fast 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 CPU (Popularly known as Snapdragon). This ensures that your applications run fast and the multitasking is efficient.

To add icing on the cake, the CPU is accompanied by an AMD Z430 GPU which will give you best possible gaming experience on a mobile phone. With 512 MB flash and 576 MB RAM, the phone has ample memory to run lots of applications. You get a 4 GB microSD memory with the phone. However, the HTC Desire also supports 8 GB, 16 GB or 32 GB (maximum) microSD cards for its SD 2.0 microSD expansion slot.

Operating System:

The HTC Desire ships with Google Android 2.1 (also known as 'Eclair') which can be upgraded to latest version - Android 2.2 (also known as Froyo). In addition to this great OS from Google, HTC adds its own "Sense UI" which only enhances the user experience. The Sense UI is very user friendly and easy to use with finger based touch screen navigation and control.

Display:

The HTC desire has a stunning 3.7 inch AMOLED / SLCD touch screen display with WVGA resolution of 480x800 pixels. The colors on the screen are so crisp and vivid that the videos are an absolute delight to watch and the texts are easy to read. Did we mention that after upgrading to Android 2.2 the HTC Desire can also play high-definition (720p) videos? In fact, you'll have people around you staring at your screen in  admiration if you are viewing videos on your phone in public.

The touch screen is capacitive which means it is very easy to navigate the UI and operate the applications with your fingers. The screen has pinch-to-zoom capability which is very useful. For example, you can pinch your fingers to view all seven (yes, seven!) of your home screens and switch between them.

Camera:

The HTC Desire has a 5 MP color camera with flash, face detection, auto focus, geotagging (adds location details to a photo) and widescreen photo capture for capturing memories. The camera can record WVGA resolution (800x480 pixels) videos @ 15 fps; but that’s not a deal breaker as you can record high-definition (720p) videos @ 30 fps after updating to Android 2.2.

Multimedia Support:

The HTC Desire has a photo application for viewing photos and videos as well as a Music player and FM Radio application. You can make sound recording in .amr format and play .aac, .amr, .ogg, .m4a, .mid, .mp3, .wav, .wma formats. Video recording can be done in .3gp format while .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, H.263, H.264 and .wmv format videos can be viewed on the HTC Desire (Tip: Install RockPlayer to play Divx / Xvid files on HTC Desire).

Connectivity:

The HTC Desire features a wide range of connectivity options, with 2 and 3G available. There's quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and HSPA/WCDMA (900/2100 MHz) for mobile networks. There's 3G (up to 7.2 Mbps download speed, up to 2 Mbps upload speed), EDGE (up to 560 Kbps download speed), GPRS (up to 114 Kbps download speed) and of course, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for internet connectivity. HTC Desire also has Bluetooth 2.1 EDR with A2DP support for Bluetooth stereo headsets, FTP and OPP (Object Push) [for file transfer from other Bluetooth capable device].

Widgets and Applications:

The HTC Desire ships with the following widgets for your home screens - Bookmarks, Calendar, Clock, Footprints, Friend Stream, Mail, Messages, Music, News, People, Photo Album, Photo Frame, Search, Settings, Stocks, Twitter, Weather. Many more widgets are also available for download from Android store.

The HTC Desire has a full HTML browser which is Flash 10.1 enabled. The pinch-to-zoom and swipe-to-scroll works very well. The browser is one of the best ever seen in a smart phone. Notable applications include Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, HTC Footprints, Digital compass, Quick office Document Viewer, Clock, Email, Merged Threaded SMS view, IM, FM Radio, Music Player, Video Player and many more can be installed via Android store.

Social networking is well taken care of with Facebook integration, Friend Stream, Photo sharing on Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter, Video sharing on YouTube, HTC Peep for twittering, and Picasa integration.

Sensors and Other Features:

HTC Desire has the following in-built sensors - G-Sensor (Gravity sensor, changes orientation of display as per the orientation of the phone w.r.t gravity), Digital compass (for direction), Proximity sensor (turns display off while the phone is held close to the face and saves battery power), Ambient light sensor (auto adjusts screen brightness so that display is readable under any type of light conditions). There are many applications which take advantage of these sensors. For example, ringer volume is lowered as soon as the phone is picked up. Ringer is muted when the phone is flipped face down.

HTC Desire has Internal GPS antenna which is used by application like Google Maps and HTC Footprints for directions.

The HTC Desire supports tethering (internet sharing through USB).

HTC Desire has 3.5 mm stereo audio jack.

HTC Desire has micro-USB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer.

HTC Desire also has an optical track pad.

Battery Life:

HTC Desire has 1400 mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion battery with talk time of up to 400 minutes on 2G GSM and up to 390 minutes on 3G WCDMA. The standby time is up to 340 hours on GSM and up to 360 HRS on WCDMA. This means you can go on for 2-3 days without charging your phone with moderate use.

Size and Weight:

We were surprised by the size of the HTC Desire. It is a very sleek phone with 60 mm width, 11.9 mm thickness and 119 mm height. The device weighs in at just 135 grams!
