What is a sim only contract?

A sim only contract is exactly how it sounds - signing up to one of these deals basically bags you a sim card to put in your existing mobile phone. This sim card grants you a certain amount of cross network minutes, text messages and a data allowance per month. Sim only contracts are similar to pay monthly contracts, except for the fact that they are cheaper because they do not come with a brand new phone. Sim only contracts are paid monthly, usually by direct debit.

Remember, it is possible to keep your existing mobile phone number on a sim only contract by requesting a PAC code from your former network and giving this to your new, sim only provider.

The advantages of sim only contracts

The two main advantages are the monthly cost and their flexibility. Compared to pay monthly contracts, sim only plans are significantly cheaper. You will get more minutes, texts and data allowance for your money. They are also more flexible than pay monthly contracts. Most sim only contracts offer short contract terms, often requiring just 30 days notice to cancel.

What do I need before I sign up to a sim only plan?

You will need an existing mobile phone to put the sim card in. Depending on the new network you choose, your phone may need to be unlocked. If you wish to keep your existing phone number, you will also require a PAC code from your former network. Both of these enquiries can be dealt with by your former network.
